Job Title: Assistant Director of Cornerstone Kids ~ An After School and Summer Care Mission of Searcy First United Methodist Church   
Responsibility to:  Kiki Capps, Director
Summary: Searcy First is seeking to hire an Assistant Director* of After School Care to become an integral part of a team that works to create an inviting, stimulating, safe, and nurturing learning environment for school age children (K-6). The Assistant Director will assist the Director in the administration and supervision of the After School/Summer Programs at Searcy First UMC. The Assistant Director is committed to sustaining a high quality childcare program that values the cooperative relationships between children, families, and teachers. A strong supervisory relationship with co-workers is vital to the success of the program. The Assistant Director will work with the Director to coordinate and oversee the organization’s daily operations, Monday – Friday 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (during regular school days**). This program will be available to parents on certain holidays, as well as during the summer; those hours are TBD.

Qualifications:
  • Assistant Director shall be age twenty-one or older, and provide documentation of one of the following educational levels:
  • Eight years of experience in Early Childhood or Elementary Education and completion of one of the following, within two years of employment:
  • Out of School Time Credential
  • Child Development Associate Credential
  • Director’s Credential or the equivalent
  • Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education
  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Child or Youth Development or a related field, plus six years of experience in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a non-related field from a regionally accredited college or university plus one of the following:
  • Four years of experience in early childhood education or elementary education
  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or Out of School Time Credential 
  • Nine college hours of credit in child/youth development
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher Degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Child/Youth Development or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university. (Determination of “related field” shall be made by the Division of Child Care & Early Childhood Education.)
 
  • Gifted in leadership, administration, teaching/communication
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of child development and understands the importance of providing a safe environment for children
 
Responsibilities***:
 
  • Attend New Assistant Director’s Orientation, PAS (Program Administration Scale) or YPQA form B, and  ERS (Environment Rating Scale) training or introduction to YPQA (Youth Program Quality Assessment) within six months of employment
  • Obtain fifteen (15) clock hours in early childhood education or child/youth development each year
  • Obtain certificate of successful completion of first aid and CPR from an approved organization  
  • Administer, plan, manage, and control the daily activities of the After School/Summer Care Program
  • Ensure that the facility meets licensing requirements
  • Enforce Safe Sanctuary Policy (may be found at http://www.searcyfumc.com/safe-sanctuary-policy  
  • Ensure the health and safety of participants, especially pertaining to Covid 19 safety precautions
  • Provide prudent supervision of all staff and volunteers
  • Search, schedule interviews and hire (with board approval) employees
  • Maintain updated credentials and files on employees, including background checks, health cards, etc.
  • Manage Staff Members by implementing employee policies and procedures
  • Conduct Staff Meetings
  • Maintain Student Enrollment/Attendance, including registration, immunization records, current emergency contacts
  • Manage Waiting List if necessary
  • Manage budget and provide monthly budget reports
  • Manage resources well, staying within the After School Care budget
  • Post and Enforce Classroom Schedule (see DHS Manual p. 22 for Program Requirements)
  • Review and evaluate progress of all programs in order to encourage and maintain standards of excellence
  • Oversee transportation from schools to the after school program, including van drivers/riders
  • Transport children from schools, in specified church vans 
  • Oversee accounts receivable and payable
  • Work in compliance with State Licensing and Fire Department, Health Department and FUMC to pass inspections and keep paperwork up to date and any appropriate fees paid
  • Maintain a safe environment with inviting and age appropriate d├ęcor
  • Respond quickly in an emergency situation
  • Purchase and distribute supplies
  • Report any incidents to parents, administration and State Licensing where appropriate
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, report any necessary maintenance immediately
  • Manage employees in order to appropriately divide workload, student ratios and duties
  • Conduct in-depth employee training as employees are hired
  • Interact positively with all children
  • Develop and implement after school program schedule to include homework time, recreation time, snack time, devotionals, enrichment and fellowship with other students
  • Coordinates with church staff to ensure After School Care/Summer activities are posted on the church calendar, in the bulletin, and on the website, when appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Hours and Compensation:
 
Vacation: Vacation days shall be according to church employee policy.
 
Probationary Period: The initial 90 day period of employment shall be considered probationary. At any time during this period, the employee or the Senior Pastor, with the approval of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, may terminate employment with or without reason.
 
Employment At Will: This position is considered an “at will” position. The employee or employer may terminate the employment relationship at any time with or without cause.
 
Background Check: Prior to the entry on the duty date, the employee must undergo a criminal background check and sexual/harassment investigation according to Safe Sanctuary compliance.
 
Modification: This job description is subject to being modified as needed by the Senior Pastor in consultation with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
 
*Ideally, the Assistant Director will become the Director in January 2021.
