Traditional Music Ministries | Led by Dr. Tish Kennedy Davenport

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." -Colossians 3:16, KJV

Each musical group within our music ministry shares a passion for providing the highest quality of music possible; we always strive to give God the very best that we have to offer. We seek to present quality music, meaning, well-crafted musical compositions with meaningful texts (closely connected to the theme of the worship service or the liturgical season) paired with finessed execution and an open heart. Quality music in worship and other programs can be a powerful medium through which God’s presence is felt. Through our musical offerings in worship, we glorify God, provide a medium through which all those present can connect more deeply with Christ, and inspire those people to go forth and connect others to the love of Christ.

Everyone is welcome to share their gifts and talents within our music ministry. If you have a musical calling, contact Dr. Tish Davenport at tish.searcyfumc@gmail.com or call 501-268-5896.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir welcomes singers of all ages, from high school to adult, and of all levels of musicianship, from the trained vocalist to the occasional singer. This choir of 20-25 voices is dedicated to sacred music of all genres and styles: classical, hymn-based, contemporary Christian, 21st century hymnody, spirituals and psalms. In addition to serving at the 10:50 worship service, the choir sings at several other special services throughout the year and presents a Christmas and an Easter Cantata each year.

Rehearsals are from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the Music Suite, room 115. In addition, they rehearse at 10:30 on Sunday mornings before the 10:50 service. New members will be assigned a robe and a folder at their first rehearsal. Everyone is welcome!

Kidz Choir

This fun group of kids (grades 2-8) meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:00pm. They sing in worship every 4-6 weeks and present a Christmas musical each year in mid-December. They also sing in special services (Good Friday, Christmas Eve, etc..) and on programs for the community, such as the annual Ring and Sing Concert. This group sings musical selections in a wide variety of styles ranging from contemporary to more traditional selections. Soloists for worship are also selected from this group, as opportunities arise.

Adult Handbells

The Van Patten Handbell Choir is a 4-5 octave bell choir that rehearses from 5:30 – 6:45p.m. on Sunday evenings in the Music Suite, room 114. They ring every 4-6 weeks in the 10:50 service throughout the school year, play for special services and concerts throughout the year, and frequently plays within the community. Members from this group perform annually at the Holiday of Lights celebration and at various other community events as well (such as playing carols at Pioneer Village).

Handbells are wonderful rhythm instruments – which means you have to be able to count to join this group. No prior ringing experience is necessary, although a certain amount of music reading is required. They are also very musical instruments with a vast array of dynamics, musical styles and sound techniques ranging from singing bells, swings and mallets to martellatos! It is sure to be the most fun way you’ve served God through music!

Kidz Bellz

This handbell ensemble for grades 3-8 rehearses on Sunday evenings from 4:30-5:15pm. Through music, games, and other types of instructions this group learns how to read music. Kidz Bellz plays in worship every 4-6 weeks and also performs in various concerts and in the community throughout the year. This group has played at the Providence Assisted Living facility, participates in our annual Ring and Sing Concert each year, typically plays on Christmas Eve (5:30pm), and on additional handbell concerts.

Anyone with interest is welcome to join. Please contact Tish Davenport ahead of time so that a part can be assigned and appropriate bells set up for rehearsal.
