New Music Minister

The Staff Parish Relations Committee of Searcy First United Methodist Church is honored to announce Tish Kennedy Davenport as the new Minister of Music.

Tish has been selected from a very strong field of candidates. The SPRC was unanimous in their decision to bring Tish to our ministry team.
Here is part of the cover letter Tish submitted:
"I have been the three-quarter time Director of Music Ministries at the First United Methodist Church in The Colony, TX (FUMCTC) for five years and, prior to this position, was the part-time Director of Music at St. Mark’s UMC in Mesquite, TX for over six years. I am in the very final stage of completing my Ph.D. in music theory with choral conducting as my related field at the University of North Texas (UNT). Technically, my degree will be completed in August, 2018, although I am nearly finished with all of the requirements now.
"An extremely well-rounded musician with a strong United Methodist background, I have been involved in church music my entire life, raised in the United Methodist Church as the daughter of two church musicians. My father has always been a Director of Music and my mother an organist/accompanist, who also owns a successful private piano studio. They are both currently serving at the First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, AR.
"I am able to draw upon a wide variety of musical and life experiences in leading a multi-faceted music ministry. I have extensive experience as an instrumentalist, with a B.M. in Flute performance and four years in the United States Marine Corps (as a flute/piccolo player, pianist, and woodwind section leader), as a vocalist and chorister (sang for ten years as a mezzo-soprano in the Dallas Symphony Chorus [DSC] and have studied voice privately as well), as a director of adult and children’s choirs at St. Mark’s UMC and FUMCTC, and also as an educator (through my studies at UNT and teaching fellowship experience in aural skills and written theory). Through these experiences (along with several years spent in a sales-based occupation immediately following my time in the USMC), I have learned how to work successfully with all personality types and age groups (young children and youth, military musicians in the USMC, undergraduate college students at UNT, and adults and seniors as well).
"Ideally, I am seeking a church who will not only appreciate my diverse talents, but also my passion for providing the highest quality of music possible; I believe we should always strive to give God the very best that we have to offer. For me, “quality music” means a well-crafted musical composition with meaningful texts (closely connected to the theme of the worship service) paired with finessed execution and an open heart. Quality music in worship and other programs can be a powerful medium through which God’s presence is felt. Through our musical offerings, we glorify God, provide a medium through which all those present can connect more deeply with Christ, and inspire those people to go forth and connect others to the love of Christ."
