Small Groups / Sunday School

Small group ministry is a way of connecting with fellow Christians to learn and grow together in our relationship with Jesus Christ. We need each other! This ministry happens in two primary ways at Searcy First United Methodist Church as we seek to "GROW in full devotion to Jesus Christ."

Adult Sunday School Classes

We have a variety of Sunday school classes that can help you learn and grow at Searcy First. We encourage you to try several classes to see where you best fit at Searcy First. It is a priority that "GROW in full devotion to Jesus Christ" together! Most of our Sunday school classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:50a.m.

The Seekers Class

For parents with small children / young adults.

We are a class seeking truth and direction through study, outreach, fellowship and faith development.

Location: 2nd floor, Room 214

Genesis Class

All Ages.

Take the elevator all the way to the top of the Sunday School building for an hour with "Miss Janet". This is a big class for good reason. Janet Overstreet brings the scripture alive with spirit-filled, heartfelt, real life experiences. This is an active class with lots of active people. A great place to get plugged in to the church. Lots of potluck action too!

Location: 3rd floor, big room on the left/by the elevator

Fulbright Class

The Fulbright Class (Rm. 101 across from the Wesley Room) is currently a small class of "mature" women, with five rotating teachers and the most comfortable chairs in the building!  Our lessons come from the Adult Bible Studies of the Uniform Series, which provides great Scriptural-based lessons on a variety of issues and subjects.  We don't discuss a lot, but each member is encouraged to contribute thoughts whenever and wherever the Holy Spirit leads! This is truly a faith-based group of women who care for one another in holy love.  Anyone of any age can join us and visitors are always welcome!

Location: 1st Floor, Room 101

Faith@Home

Faith@Home Sunday School class is based on the greatest commandment given to us.  Jesus says in Matthew 22:37(NIV), "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."  In our class we explore ways to be intentional in our faith walk at home, in the workplace, in our neighborhoods, and at church or where ever we may be.  We are currently doing an Andy Stanley study called "Guard Rails".  This study is about how to guard against the trappings of everyday life by establishing boundaries or "guard rails."  We are a group of believers from a wide range of ages and walks of life.  We have comfy couches and a spot for anyone looking for a place to connect.  The class is led by Steve and Melonie Garrison.  We are located on the third floor directly to the right at the top of the stairs.  We would love for you to join us!

Location: 3rd floor, to the right of the stairs

The “Life Happens” Class

Our class focuses on exploring God’s Word for practical tools to help us meet the everyday challenges of a busy life. Whether it be in our careers, our relationships with one another, or our family life, we believe God has the answers for us. We decide on our topics as a group. This past year our studies have included Love Does, putting feet and hands to God’s love, The Prayer of Jabez, a challenge to expand our own personal ministry, Portraits of Job, a study in how to develop the spiritual fruit of patience. We welcome anyone and everyone who would like to join us on our journey.

Location: 2nd floor, Room 204

Pairs & Spares

Ages 60+

The class is a nurturing bunch and always begin the class with a time of joys, cares and concerns where everyone has a chance to share and catch up with class members who have special needs. These are married couples and some singles--mostly over 60. Class members bring a wide range of faith experiences to the table that adds a good textural prospective to the lesson. They use the Adult Bible Study series with a rotating teacher schedule. If you want to sit and ponder the lessons quietly or get right in the middle of a discussion you'll find a welcome place in the Pairs & Spares.

Location: 2nd floor, Room 211

Murray Class

Ages: 60’s+

This class consists of couples and singles that are mostly over 70.  The class began in 1954 and many of the original members are still in the group. They study out of the Adult Bible Study Series. They laugh a lot and do a great job of caring for each another. There are always welcoming smiles from members in this class. This is a mission-oriented class with active involvement in the United Methodist Thrift Store and helping provide food at the Good Samaritan House.  Sofas are available if you are the sofa type. If you want to roll up your sleeves in projects relevant to the role of our church in the community, this is a great place to go. The class also uses rotating teachers, always keeping your mind and spiritual growth stimulated as they are a participating class.   The members enjoy fellowship together and always have a Christmas Dinner together during the Christmas season.  They have a heart for God and for his teachings.

Location: 1st floor, Room 100

F.I.S.H. Class (First In Service to Him)

Ages 30-50

This is a mostly couples class and they are at a place in their lives where things are BUSY. So it's not unusual to see different faces over the course of a few weeks. If you are worried about going in alone, don't: Careers and schedules make for a lot of half couple attendance. They have a big heart for reaching out into the community with a special focus of the Methodist Girls’ Home in Searcy.  They enjoy a range of video-based lessons that the class chooses. Lots of smiles, laughs and lively discussion. The range of age and experiences are wide. You could be 10 years on either side of the numbers and fit right in!

Location: 2nd floor, Rm. 213

Cross Class

Couples and Singles 60+

This class will make you feel at home and welcome you into a rich friendship that many in the class have enjoyed for years. There is always a smile, a handshake and a sense of belonging in this class.  The members support each other both inside and outside the walls of the church.  The class uses a variety of study materials, from studies of individual books of the Bible to member-chosen topics. The class uses a facilitated discussion method of learning, with a casual arrangement of seating around a large table allows for a spirited group discussion. Join us!

Location: 2nd floor, Room 205

Lewis/Orr Class

Ages 40’s-50’s

The Lewis/Orr class was the merger of two adult Sunday School classes.  The Lewis Class was taught by Dr. Jim Lewis and the other class, formerly the Young Adult class, was taught by class members.  After Dr. Lewis' death, the two classes became one.  The class is made of men and women (some couples and some singles) in their late 40s to mid 60s.  We study different books of the Bible and sometimes a particular book.  This is a discussion class.  Members are active in the life of the church.  Bige Wray and several from the class are responsible for the Second Saturday lunch.  Every Christmas we pack shoeboxes for the Samaritan Purse Ministry.  We support the Methodist Girls' Home and other ministries of the church.  Karen Millar leads the discussion along with Bige Wray and Beth Pemberton.

Location: 2nd floor, room 208

Youth Counselors

This is a class for the Youth Counselor Ministry Team.  It is a place that the volunteers in Student Ministries come together each week for personal spiritual growth and prayer for each other and the ministry that God has given us to lead. If we are not growing ourselves how can we lead the students we are called to?  It is a weekly connection that helps us personally as well as prepares us for weekly student ministry.

Location: 2nd Floor, Room 209

“Me ‘n’ Mo” Young Adults Class

College Age Folks

The “Me ‘n’ Mo” is a group of young, Christian adults who began meeting in the late summer of 2015. We are patiently building relationships with one another while we seek God through the synergy of scripture and this busy, broken world, all the while trying to put into practice what God is teaching us: “Head-Heart-Hand”. We’re mostly young college students, mostly single, mostly without children and at least one of us is “grammatically challenged”. Join us!

Location: 2nd Floor, Room 203 (the NA Room at the top of the far stairs)
