Welcome Associate Pastor Bill Sardin

In the last message to the congregation was a dramatic sunset followed by a statement of hope and a new sunrise. Our District Superintendent, Reverend Susan Ledbetter, met with our SPRC last night to bring us the word from Bishop Mueller that the Reverend Bill Sardin is our incoming Associate Pastor, July 1st. The SPRC is pleased and excited to have Bill appointed here! We share this information with you with appreciation to our Bishop, our D.S. and all those who have helped to bring this appointment to reality. Bill Sardin is married to Kimberly. They have a 12 year-old daughter, Mallory; and, an 8 year-old son, Wesley. He is currently the pastor at Calico Rock/Spring Creek United Methodist Churches. Bill earned his BS in Speech/Communications at UALR in 1995 and his Master of Divinity at Memphis Theological Seminary in 2013. He is a Provisional Elder in the Arkansas Conference, on track for ordination as an Elder. Bill writes: In 1999, I married Kimberly and took a job at the Pulaski County Special School District as a Computer Network Technician, I worked in that position for the next 2.5 years. I was then promoted to the Senior Network Technician. My job was to maintain computer networks as well as design and implement new networks. I remained in that position until 2006 when I took the position of Children’s Ministry Director at St. James UMC.As Director of Children’s Ministries I planned midweek and Sunday classes for children, recruited volunteers, and planned special events. During that time I learned to work with a large staff and adapted to the challenges of ministry in a large church. In 2008, I became a licensed local pastor and was appointed to St. James as the Pastor to Children and Families. My duties remained the same but now with the addition of pastoral duties such as preaching, hospital visits and worship planning. While on the staff at St. James, the ministry that I am most proud of was a bible study for tweens called Tween Time. This bible study was specifically designed to help bridge the gap between children’s ministry and youth. The participants learned how to look things up in the bible, to discuss scripture in bible study setting and how to begin to think critically about scripture all while also including fun games that helped reinforce the week’s lesson. 9 years later, Tween Time is still an active and vital part of the St. James Children’s Ministry. In learning about Bill last night, we discovered again what a small world it truly is. Many of you will remember our Associate Pastor – Andrew Thompson – Reverend Bill was one of his students at Memphis Theological Seminary. He also was the Children’s Minister at St James in Little Rock in 2008, when a committee from our Children’s Ministry were looking for our next curriculum in the Little Rock area. So though he is a new member of our Family, we could say that he shares many common links to usthrough his journey. Join us in giving the Sardin family a warm and joyful welcome to Searcy First United Methodist Church. You may make contact with the Sardin’s at 870-530-1299 or email bill.sardin@arumc.org And, we will be posting more information on our website: www.searcyfumc.com Sincerely, Will Rippey, SPRC ChairDavid Orr, Senior Pastor
